You have to come from an acccredited college. There are teachers who come from other countries so it should be fine. You will likely have to take some methods classes if you have not had them. You can probably teach in Business studies, but can also teach in other areas as well if you have the background. Almost every teacher, at least in Ohio, where I was familiar with it, had to have a masters within 5 years if they were new to teaching so you would have years to get that masters. It is possible that your district (through union negotiations) will help with the masters’ degree. There are online schools which are accredited as well so you don’t have to go to classes. But many of the classes have you work with other teachers in your area who are working on their masters and you get together for some discussions and work.

I don’t know how the job market is right now with the economy as it is. However, I have not heard too much about layoffs. Layoffs are by certification and seniority within that group. But might be able to get additional certification to teach other subjects. Bit draws are math and science as they can’t get enough teachers in those areas.

When you relocate, check with local districts and see about applying for certification. The county superintendent’s office can often help you apply for certification with the state. They do a background check and criminal background. Until you find a job, you can probably substitute and get a certificate for substitution.

But if you didn’t get a job right away or if you were a substitute, you would not automatically have medical care.
